MAQ-7235 1/72 Lavochkin La-5 Soviet WW2 fighter model kit
The La-5 marks the middle stage in the development of Lavochkin's propeller driven fighters, begun in 1940 by the LaGG-3 and culminating with La-11 in 1947. The shortage of M-105P liquid cooled in-line engine (rated 1050 h.p.) used in the LaGG-3 led to the experimental mounting of the M-82 two-row 14- cylinder radial engine (rated 1330 h.p.) to a modified LaGG-3 airframe. Results of flight testing were so promising it was decided to put the new aircraft into production, started in December 1942 as the La-5. Some 10,599 La-5 fighter of all versions were produced 1942 through 1944.
