RPR-72004 1/72 Antonov An-26 Curl Soviet Military Two-Engine Turbo-Prop Transport Aircraft (Polish, Czechoslovakian, Germany Versions) model kitAntonov An-24 derived transport aircraft emerged in 1968 following a decade of the progenitor successful service. Being named An-26, this is specified to have 5.5 t cargo capability and to ensure continued air operations from semi-prepared airfields. Furthermore, the airlifter has 38-40 passenger capacity and provides 24 wounded persons with medical men escort accomodation in medevac version.
The An-26 is high-wing monoplane powered with a pair of AI-24VT (2820 e.h.p.) turboprops and single RU-19A-300 (780 kg) turbojet. The latter is placed in starboard main engine nacelle to be employed as APU and to generate additional thrust in takeoff and cruise flight. The aircraft features pressurized cabin with cargo loading devices. Tail fuselage loading gate allows paratroopers and different airborne vehicles landing. The An-26 is equipped with weather radar and autopilot. OPB-1P optical sight provides precise loads drop. Some An-26s have special adapters beneath the fuselage to convey bombs or other weaponary.
The An-26 airlifter saw widespread service in Afghan war against rebel Mujahideen forces. Today, 26 countries use the aircraft around the world.
A total of more than 1000 An-26 was built.
