ROD-006 1/72 Albatros D.lI German WW1 fighter model kitAlbatros D.II was not built in great numbers; at least only 50 saw service at the front, but aircraft had reasonable fighting qualities and flying performances. Some minor shortcomings, like unsatisfactory view from the cockpit soon were improved. Albatros Gesellschaft GmbH company soon developed new version of D.I, later designated Albatros D.ll.New aircraft had splayed N-type centre struts; at the same time lowering of the upper wing to reduce the gap, so that the pilot could look over as well as under the wing. The D.ll version really established the reputation of one of the best fighter for its time and production order was increased up to the 200 aircrafts; moreover, LVG company received license for additional 75 aircrafts, designated D.ll LVG. On the mid 1916 first batches of D.ll arrived to the army's "Flugpark". Many aircrafts still had Windhoff-side radiators, but later all D.ll were equipped with Teves and Braun wing mounted radiators. Many famous aces, like Oswald Boelcke, Manfred von Richthofen and Kart Schaefer flied on this type with great success. In spite of appearing more modern Albatros D.III version at the end of 1916, many D.ll still on service in combat units.
