The Sino-Japanese war of 1894-1895 was a kind of "breakdown of the pen" for armored naval fleets. The last major naval battle involving armored steam ships was in the 1866 off the island of Lissa. Since the defeat of the Italian armored fleet, technology has made a huge leap during the passed years. But did the people change too? The battle between the armored armadas of two Asian empires became a clash of two systems the rapidly modernizing Japan, embarked on a bourgeois path of development, and feudal China, carefully "preserving the spirit of antiquity" in all its state institutions. Modern technology in the hands of an archaic-minded Chinese politicians and naval commanders lost assertive and inquisitive mind of the Japanese, armed not much better than their opponents. Ironically, the first after almost thirty years clash of armored steam fleet was very peculiar assessed by military experts in the world, and when after only 10 years on the pages of Newspapers flashed the same geographical name, but applied to the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-1905, it became clear that much of what happened in the waters of the Yellow and Japanese seas, has already taken place in the year of Csau, as it was called 1894 according to the traditional Chinese calendar. The story of this forgotten war, which became the prologue of the imperialist division of the world described in this book, illustrated with exclusive drawings and unique photographs.
