The battle on the territory of Belarus started on 22 June 1941 and lasted for 18 days. Despite the great losses suffered by the Red Army in these operations, it failed to stop the storming offensive conducted by the enemy. The depth of the retreat of Soviet forces was equal to 450-600 kilometres by 9 July 1941. The tragedy of that defeat was aggravated by the peril of several Soviet Armies in German encirclement and by the arrest of the Western Front's command. Nevertheless, the stubborn resistance of Soviet troops near the state border and their counterattacks inflicted considerable damage on Heeresgruppe "Mitte" and slowed down the German grouping's offensive tempo on its way towards Smolensk and Moscow.
The present book narrating about these events, contains 100 photographs, drawings, and a map of the theatre of operations.
