MAQ-44001 1/144 R-7A Soviet Intercontinental Ballistic Missile model kitThe R-7A two-stage intercontinental ballistic missile (project 8K74. NATO code SS-6 Sapwood) was designed under the guidance of chief constructor S.P.Korolev in OKB-1 design bureau Constructor works began in July 2 1958. R-7A was tested on Baykonur firing ground from December 24 1958 to July 1960. R-7A missile complecs was added to one's armoury in September 12 1960.Four side blocks of the first missile stage were equipped of liquid propelled rocket RD-107 and four two-chamber control liquid propelled rocket. The second stage was equipped of RD-108 four-chamber liquid propelled rocket. Fuel consisted of T-1 kerosene and liquid oxygen. The control system was the inertial type with radiocorrected. The thermonuclear war-head 46A type. The R-7A serial production was developed on Kuibyshev airplant Ns1. During the Caribbean crisis the SS-6 were stand by near Arkhangel.
