The most advanced fighter of pre-war France, D520 did not became the backbone of air defence against the Luftwaffe but it was worthy opponent for BF-109E in combat .Armeede L'Air Fighter Groups GC3, 6 and 7 during the short "Battle of France" (10.05-25.06.1940) crashed down 108 German aircrafts. After the peace treaty had been signed D520s served in air forces of Vichy (153), Free France (170), Italy (60), Bulgaria (120), Rumania and German training units. One of the Free France fighter Groups was led by Dewoitine's chief pilot Marsel Doret. D52 became the sign of fame, downfall and fight of france during the WWII.
