COM-3501 1/350 Retvizan Russian battleship model kit
This is one of the best battleships of the time that served as the baseline model for a whole series of American combatants. Her armour protection distinguished her from other Russian battleships featuring the armoured deck, the mam and upper strakes were extended with 51-mm plates. She was laid down at the Crump shipyard (US) on 17 July 1899, launched on 10 October 1900 and commissioned in December 1901. Following her commissioning, she sailed from Philadelphia to Kronschtadt where in 1902 she took part in celebrating the arrival of the German squadron and Emperor Wilhelm II. Then, the Retvizan was transferred to Port-Arthur where in the night over 27 January 1904 it was blown up by a Japanese destroyer mine. By 26 may she had been repaired and fought in the battle of 28 July 1904 in the Yellow Sea. During the battle, she was hit by 18 large-calibre rounds and lost 6 crew KIA. Upon her return to Port-Arthur, the Retvizan was tasked with shelling the Japanese troops. However, on 23 November after being hit by 35 siege-gun rounds, she sunk off shore in the harbour In late 1905, the Japanese retrieved the ship, overhauled it and late in 1908 commissioned her designated as Hizen. In 1914, she took part in captunng the German port of Qumgdao, while later she was used by the Japanese in occupying the Russian Primorye Region. In 1922, she was stripped of her armament and in 1924 sunk during an exercise as a target.
