The front-line fighter MIG-29 is designed for the air superiority role. Serial production began in 1982.
The MIG-29 is a fourth generation aircraft possessing excellent aerodynamics, broad flight performance, range and high maneuverability with up to 9g-overloading. Its power plant comprises of two engines RD-33 and provides the fighter with unsurpassable vertical maneuverability and excellent take-off performance.
The MIG-29's armament consist of a 30-mm gun and 6 "Air-to-air" missiles each with an infrared (heat-seeking) and radar homing head controlled independently by location and homing devices as well as by a pilot's helmet sight. For defense to the rear the MIG-29 is equipped with an ejection system for heat sources to divert heat seeking weapons and a chaff dispenser against radar guided ones.
At present, the MIG-29 surpasses any similar class fighter in its close fighter combat capabilities.
