AMO-7258 1/72 Yakovlev Yak-38U Forger two-seater - the training version of Soviet carrier based VTOL aircraft model kit
In a number of countries in 1950s, activities on creation of a vertical takeoff and landing airplane were begun. Yakovlev design bureau in the USSR created an experimental airplane indexed Yak-36. It was demonstrated for the first time at Domodedovo air show in 1967. Its development Yak-38 made its first flight on December 2, 1970. The power plant of an airplane consist of two RD-36 35FVR engines and one R-27V-300 engine. 231 Yak-38 aircraft of different modifications were completed. They went into service with the Societ Naval Aviation. A Yak-38U double seater was designed for training. Yak-38 was based on Kiev class cruisers and was phased out in the 1990s.
