AMO-7246 1/72 IS-1 (Iosyf Stalin) the Soviet pre-WW2 experimental fighter model kit
In the late thirties an experimental fighter of an original design was developed under the direction of chief designer V.V.Shevchenko. It was a biplane with a radial engine, but its lower wing could be retracted in flight together with landing gear, which transformed it into a monoplane.
The first flight of airplane IS-1 (losyf Stalin) was held May 29,1940. In January 1941 the second prototype IS-2 with a stronger engine was completed. Flight tests of IS-1 and IS-2 did not bring the required flight performance. Therefore this idea was abandoned.
