In February 1918 Gothaer Waggonfabric AG tested a new version of the latest G.V bomber with a new box tail ('Kasten-steuerung'); Gotha reported that aircraft with the new tail assembly could fly in a straight course with just one working engine. Apart from the new tail, the Gotha G.Va had a slightly smaller nose section with a two-wheeled auxiliary shock landing gear mounted underneath (similar to the SSW-type 'Stossfahrgestell', designed for the G.IV SSW). 25 aircraft of this type were built, all (except for one machine which crashed during flight trials) going to Bogohl 3. Later aircraft were equipped with a four-wheeled auxiliary undercarriage beneath each engine nacelle for increased efficiency. This version, the Gotha G.Vb, also had Flettner servo controls on its ailerons to reduce the pilot's work load when flying with one working engine. Idflieg ordered 80 planes, the first being delivered to Bogohl 3 in June 1918. By the end of the war all 80 aircraft had been built, but the last batch did not reach the front and was delivered directly from the factory to the Allied special commission. As of 1st September 1918, only four bombers of the G.Va type and twenty-one of the G.Vb type served in Bogohl 3. Along with other night bombers every G.Va and G.Vb was destroyed after WWI ended. - It's real chanse to expand your quarter-scale collection with 1/48 Gloster Gladiator Mk.ll British WW2 Fighter model kit (price $35.97) by RODEN company! In 1937 the Ministry of Aviation placed an order with the Gloster Aircraft Company for the improved Gloster Gladiator Mk.ll modified according to the requirements of specification F.36/37. The most significant innovation was the substitution of the Bristol Mercury IX engine with the Mercury VIIIA: the capacity was still the same, but the gear ratio was 0.572, permitting the installation of the new three-blade Fairey Reed metal airscrew. The Mk II had an electric engine starter, an improved navigation system, and new equipment for measuring altitude and climb rate. Right after the beginning of WW2, Gladiator Mk.ll is were sent to France as part of the Expeditionary Force. Their career was very short - after one Luftwaffe raid almost all machines were destroyed. At the time of the Battle of Britain, 247 Squadron of the Royal Air Force was the only unit equipped with the Gladiator Mk.ll; pilots flying the type managed to score several victories. The most notable campaigns in which the Gladiator Mk.ll took part were the Battle for Norway and the South-African Campaign. Numerous victories over enemy planes proved that when piloted by an experienced pilot, the Mk.ll could be a deadly weapon. Another important part of the Gladiator Mk.ll's fighting career was the Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union. To secure take-off and landing in snowy regions most Finnish and Swedish fighters were equipped with skis. The Finnish Gladiator Mk.ll fought on the front line the longest, until the middle of 1943. In North Africa the Gladiator Mk.ll served until the end of 1942. Other Mk.lls were used as liaison and weather reconnaissance planes until 1944. A kit of a superb quality. Highly recommended for Aviation Fans!

- 1/72 IT-1 Drakon Soviet Tank Destroyer model kit by ACE company is available for online ordering (price $11.97). Development and testing of the Obiekt 150 (missile armed tank) was completed in 1968, with the vehicle being accepted into service with the Soviet Army as the IT-1 (Istrebitel Tankov-1 or Tank Destroyer-1) on 3rd September 1968. The IT-1 entered limited series production at Uralvagonzavod in Nizhny Tagil and was produced in small numbers from 1968 to 1970; the only tank based ATGM system to successfully reach the stage of limited series production. Though the IT-1 did enter service with the Soviet Army, the development of the IT-1 tank destroyer, the 2K4 missile system, the 3M7 "Drakon" missile and the associated semiautomatic command and guidance systems had proved a severe stretch for available Soviet technology in the early 1960's. The development process had been subject to many delays such that the missile system entered service 7-8 years behind schedule. As a result, the 3M7 "Drakon" on its Obiekt-150 chassis was, though still an effective system, technically obsolete when introduced into service in 1968, overtaken by new tank armament, ammunition types and the rapid development of second-generation wheeled ATGM systems. The IT-1 tank destroyer was withdrawn from Soviet service in the late 1970's. A kit of a good quality. Recommended for Soviet Armour Enthusiasts!

- A new kit of Russian Project company1/72 L-39 C/Z0 Albatros Jet Trainer model kit is available for online ordering (price $9.97). The Czechoslovakian L-39 was built as the successor to their earlier trainer, the L-29 Delfin. Design work began in 1966, and the first prototype made its initial flight on 4 November 1968. The idea of the design was to marry an efficient, powerful turbofan engine to a sleek, streamlined fuselage, resulting in a strong, economical performer which would become the next standard jet trainer for the Warsaw Pact. Full-scale production was delayed until late 1972 due to apparent problems with the design of the air intakes, but these difficulties were overcome and the type went on to be a great success with the Soviet, Czech and East German air forces, among others. Three main variants were produced. The L-39C was built as a pure trainer and was used by numerous air forces throughout Eastern Europe beginning in 1974 and continuing through today. The armed weapons-trainer variant is called the L-39ZA, and a close-support and ground-attack version is called the L-39ZO. In addition to those mentioned above, the L-39 has been exported to numerous countries, including Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Iraq, Libya, Estonia, and Kyrghyzstan. A modernized derivative of the Albatros, the L-59, is still being built in the Czech Republic. A kit of a very good quality! Add this warbird into your collection!

- We received a new kit of a very high quality from ACE company: Grumman AF-2W Guardian US Navy Carrier Based Anti-Submarine Aircraft model kit is available for online ordering (price $24.97). The AF Guardian was developed as a replacement for the Navy's TBF Avenger anti-submarine search & strike aircraft. The Navy ordered Grumman Aerospace Corporation to modify the developing XTB3F-1 bomber. The new plane was to be classified as "hunter-killer" carrier based anti-submarine (ASW) aircraft. The first prototype flew on 19 December 1945. Two variants of the Guardian were produced: The AF-2S for torpedo or bombing missions and the AF-2W with the large ventral radar. Designed to work in pairs, the AF-2W "hunter" member of the team has a crew of four and was unarmed, though it could carry underwing drop tanks, and had a large radome for the APS-20 search radar mounted on the belly under the cockpit. The finlets were to provide lateral stability, which was affected by the radome. The AF-2S "killer" member of the team had a crew of three and could carry up to 1,800 kilograms (4,000 pounds) of munitions, including depth charges, bombs, or a homing torpedo in the bombbay, plus 12.7 centimeter (5 inch) "high velocity ail rockets (HVARs)" mounted on underwing pylons. The AF-2S mounted APS-30 targeting radar in a pod under the right wing, a searchlight in a pod under the left wing, and could also carry sonar buoys. Highly recommended!

- Exellent kit in quarter scale Sopwith 1.B1 French WW1 Bomber model kit (price $24.97) by RODEN company is available for online ordering! The Sopwith 1,5 Strutter appeared in the middle of 1916, and right after that the French Military Command became very interested in this new British development, since the French Air Force mostly had obsolete Farman and Breguet types in service. Agreement for license production of Sopwith 1,5 Strutter was quickly reached; however, due to the slow speed of development, the type was not appearing in great quantity, and in the beginning France purchased 1,5 Strutters produced in Great Britain. By the end of 1916 the following companies were involved in production of the plane: Harriot, Morane-Saulnier, Salmson, Nieuport and some others. In spite of the fact that all of these companies had developed similar aircraft of their own, they had to produce the 1,5 Strutter, which now had the type names Sopwith 1.B1 (one-seat version) and Sopwith 1.B2 (two-seat version). French manufacturers managed to build about four thousand aircraft of both versions in quite a short period of time (until 1917). There was almost no difference between the licensed Sopwith 1.B1 and its British counterpart except for the way bombs were loaded and fixed in the middle of the fuselage. The Le Rhone 9Jb engine was installed in the majority of these planes, while British-built aircraft had a Clerget 92 engine. At the moment of its fighting debut in the winter of 1916/1917 the plane was still competitive in fighting missions. A kit of a superb quality. Recommended for Aviation Fans!

- ACE company offers a new interesting kit: 1/72 MT-LBM (6MA) Russian Multipurpose Tracked Vehicle model kit is available for online ordering (price $11.97). The MT-LB light armored utility vehicle has disappeared from the scene for several years. Development and production of the vehicle had been centered around the Kharkov Tractor Plant, now in Ukraine. However, one of the alternate plants, the Muromteplovoz, is now offering the vehicles again. Murom unveiled three new versions. The MT-LBM is a new configuration of the MT-LB aimed at providing a better armament package. The MT-LBM (6MA) is fitted with the standard 14.5mm KPVT heavy machine gun turret like that fitted on the BTR-70 and BTR-80. The MT-LBM (6MB) is fitted with the 30mm cannon turret fitted to the BTR-80A. The third version of the revived series is the AZM, an air-transportable earth-mover, also fitted with a bulldozer blade. The MT-LB was developed in the late 1960s as the replacement for the older AT-P armoured tracked artillery tractor and was initially known as the M1970 multipurpose tracked vehicle until its correct designation became known. Typical roles of the MT-LB include use as an artillery prime mover towing 100mm anti-tank guns and 122 mm howitzers, command and radio vehicle (which usually has at least two whip antennas on the roof), artillery fire-control vehicle and cargo carrier. It is also widely used as an armoured personnel carrier, especially in difficult terrain such as snow or swamp. A kit of a very good quality. Highly recommended for Armour Enthusiasts!

- We received a new kit of a very interesting subject from RODEN company: 1/72 Sd.Kfz.263 (8-Rad) Schwerer Panzerfunkwagen German WW2 Armored Troop-Carrier model kit is available for online ordering (price $12.97). After adding to its armory the Sd.Kfz.231 (8-Rad) heavy armored car in 1937, the military command ordered a special modification of this car intended for service in advanced reconnaissance units. The primary tasks for this car were stable radio communication with generzal headquarters, and coordination of fighting units in action. The distinctive features of the new armored car were an armored body with a fixed turret, and a long external radio aerial installed on the body. The bigger turret was justified by an increase of the crew to 5 persons, 2 of them being radio operators. The radio equipment consisted of the Funkgerat fur mittleren Pz.-Funktrupp radio station and Kurbelmast adjustable telescopic antenna. The installation of radio equipment significantly decreased space inside the car. At the development stage it was decided not to install the cannon, leaving only the machine gun available for frontal defense; its ammunition was decreased from 1000 to 750 shells. After the beginning of WW2, fighting experience proved that fast acting motorized units require coordinated command, and cars with radio communication equipment could provide the necessary liaison. At this time the Sd.Kfz.263 (8-Rad) cars started to be widely used in their new role as mobile command units. One of the first commanders to appreciate the advantages of the Sd.Kfz.263 was Major-General Erwin Rommel, the commander of the 7th Tank Division at the start of the war. A kit of a very good quality. Highly recommended!

- A new kit of a very high quality from RODEN company: 1/72 RAF S.E.5a w/Hispano Suiza British WW1 Fighter model kit is available for online ordering (price $9.97). In the Spring of 1917 the RFC received a new fighter, the RAF S.E.5. This fighter had potentially very good fighting capability, which was successfully realized by one of the Empire's best aces, Albert Ball, in numerous air duels with the adversary's planes. The only significant disadvantage of this plane was its Hispano Suiza V8 engine whose 150 h.p. was insufficient. The situation changed shortly after the appearance of Hispano Suiza's 200 h.p. engine, a powerplant which could offer the plane significant improvement. By the end of May in the same year, the third prototype of the S.E.5 with the new engine conducted its first flight. 56 Squadron of the RFC was the first to receive the S.E.Sa in 1917. The unit that had successfully flown the 'regular' S.E.5, welcomed the new modification of this plane. Recommended for Aviation Fans!
